Questions We Actually Get Asked.
If yours isn’t here, contact us directly. We’d rather answer a hard question upfront than have a misunderstanding after enrollment.
Q1: How is this different from just calling a rental company when the power goes out?
When the power goes out, every rental company in the region gets the same surge of calls simultaneously. Most reputable companies are reserved within hours of a major event. RRG members are already in the system before the event — your unit is dispatched as part of a planned activation, not handed out on a first-call basis. The enrollment decision you make in calm weather is the thing that determines your options during a storm.
Q2: What does 'deployment window' mean exactly?
Your deployment window is our target time from event declaration to generator delivery and connection at your property. Base tier is 24 hours. Priority is 12 hours. Medical is 8 hours. These windows start from the moment RRG declares an activation event — not from when you call us. You will receive a notification with your specific delivery estimate when activation begins.
Q3: What triggers an activation event?
RRG declares an activation event when a significant grid disruption affects our service area — typically outages expected to last 12 hours or more across a meaningful portion of our member base. Our operations team monitors weather and grid conditions and makes the call. You’ll be notified by SMS and email as soon as an event is declared. You don’t have to monitor anything or make a request.
Q4: Can I cancel my membership if I don't need it?
Memberships are 12-month agreements and are non-cancellable mid-term. The remaining balance is due on early termination. This is what allows us to maintain reserved fleet capacity for every member — if cancellations were frictionless, the reservation model doesn’t work. The $199 enrollment fee is non-refundable in all cases.
Q5: What if I'm not home when the generator arrives?
We ask that someone be present for delivery and connection. If you’re not available, contact us before the event window closes and we’ll work with you on timing.
Q6: What's included in the membership and what costs extra?
Your membership includes: reserved fleet allocation, priority dispatch within your tier, delivery and pickup, professional generator setup, and your tier’s included runtime of fuel. What’s not included in the base subscription: transfer switch installation (separate add-on), fuel resupply beyond your included runtime (available at posted rates), and any extended rental beyond your included window. All overage rates are published in your membership agreement before you enroll.
Q7: How does the tier priority stack actually work during a large event?
When an event is declared, our system generates the deployment list automatically, sorted by tier first, then by geography to optimize routing. All Medical tier members in the affected area are dispatched first. Then Priority. Then Base. Within each tier, dispatch is routed for efficiency — so the order within a tier isn’t strictly sequential by enrollment date, it’s optimized by location. This is how we serve the most members in the shortest time.
Q8: What happens if the outage lasts longer than my included runtime?
Contact us before your included runtime expires. We’ll arrange fuel resupply or extended runtime at the overage rates in your membership agreement. These rates are fixed — we don’t price dynamically during events. Extended service is subject to fleet and fuel availability, prioritized in the same tier order as initial deployment.
Q9: Is the generator connected to my whole house?
With a transfer switch (which RRG will help you add through our electrician network), the generator connects to your panel and powers your home’s circuits, including hardwired appliances. We require the transfer switch for anyone planning to enroll.
Q10: I have a medical device at home. Does that qualify me for the Medical tier?
Medical tier is designed for households with documented dependency on electrically powered medical equipment: oxygen concentrators, home dialysis, CPAP/BiPAP, infusion pumps, insulin refrigeration, powered wheelchairs, and similar devices. Enrollment requires a physician letter, medical device documentation, and insurance confirmation of medical necessity. Geographic caps apply per ZIP code. Contact us to begin the documentation review before completing enrollment.
Q11: Is RRG a backup power guarantee for life-sustaining medical equipment?
No — and we want to be direct about this because it matters. RRG is a priority-access infrastructure service. The Medical tier provides the highest dispatch priority and a 12-hour deployment target, but it does not guarantee uninterrupted power and it is not a substitute for medically certified life-support power systems. If you have life-sustaining equipment, your care team and medical device provider should be your primary planning resource. RRG is a strong complement to a preparedness plan, not a replacement for one.
Q12: How do I know capacity is available in my ZIP code?
Check our service area page to see the areas we service. Medical tier has its own per-ZIP capacity limit, separate from general membership capacity. When you enroll, your spot is confirmed and held.
Q13: What happens at annual renewal?
Your membership automatically renews at the same tier and rate 12 months from your enrollment date, charged to the payment method on file. You’ll receive a renewal notice 30 days in advance. Medical tier members must re-submit updated documentation at renewal to maintain Medical tier status — if documentation isn’t received, your membership renews at Priority tier. You can upgrade your tier at renewal at the then-current pricing.
Q14: How do I enroll?
Choose your tier on the Membership Tiers page, verify ZIP code availability, and complete enrollment online. You’ll pay the $199 enrollment fee plus the first month’s payment toward your annual subscription at checkout. Your membership agreement is sent electronically for signature — your enrollment is not confirmed until the agreement is signed. You’ll receive a confirmation email with your membership details within 15 minutes of completion.
